Remission Is Such A Beautiful Word

Happy Day when we adopted Mr. Cooper from the Rescue in Ohio back in April of this year.  Our granddaughter Abby came along for the 5 hour ride to Cincinnati to adopt Cooper.  She wanted to come along and sit with him in the car so he would not be scared.  That teddy bear on the walk is from his foster mom that cared for him until we could adopt him.  He still has that cute bear and every once in awhile pulls it out to play.  It was so sweet that he had a good place to be until we could arrive to adopt him.  Thank you Diane for giving him love until we could bring him home.

Shortly after he "rescued us" we found out he had aggressive terminal cancer.  No chance of cure but there was a medication that had proven in 60% of dogs with Cooper's cancer to slow the growth and help the dog into remission.  We are blessed to find out this medication is showing promise for Cooper.
The picture above is Cooper after his surgery to remove the cancer back in April of this year.

A little back story.  We were heart broken when we suddenly lost our female basset hound Libby this past winter.  Then Cooper this big lug of fur and ears came into our lives by pure accident.  He needed to be rescued and we needed to be rescued.

When we found out he had terminal cancer that was not curable after we adopted him,  we thought how can this be?  We just found him and rescued him and love him.  How could this now happen?  It did not make any sense.

Now it does.  He was brought to us to love and give him the best possible life and he healed our hearts and gives us such prospective on life.

He teaches us that each day is truly a gift to be cherished and to make the most of it even on the hardest days.
There is always something good to each day. Sometimes we have to stop and just appreciate the small blessings in each day.

This little man is now in remission from his cancer.  We are happy the cancer medication is working to slow the growth and keep him in remission.  So we will love him and care for him and cherish each new morning he wakes with us.
A prognosis of only weeks to live when we got him from the rescue back in April,  I am happy to say we are now going on 6 months.
I am a big believer that love releases those good endorphins that help in recovery and healing of health issues.

Cooper knows he is loved and spoiled and that gives him the will to keep going.

Thank you for all your prayers, thoughts and good wishes for us and Cooper.  We continue to keep hope alive that he will get many more months with us.

Not sure who really rescued who!!!!!

Have a great week end.
Hugs,
Kris

My dog was very sick too when we rescued him when he was a puppy. He is such a healthy dog now and he'll be 9 years old in October. Give a big hug to Cooper from me and Bosco!

  17. Kris I am feeling and believing it's always about love. Last year when we were facing Max >^..^< fighting to stay on planet earth you were there for me my friend. Through all your encouraging emails your message was always that he loves us too much to leave and loves his life. When he passed I knew he was given more time because he was graced by love. Kris I pray for Cooper every day as you and Terry are in my prayers and I knew if anyone would be able to rally Cooper it would be from the enormous heart filled with love you and Terry have. Let's all take a message away from this post - one that love wins in the end. For however long Cooper will be in his forever home he knows the beauty graced by love.
    xoxo,

  20. Aw Kris, he sure is one loveable looking cutie! I can see why you think he is so special. I so relate to your story...The same thing happened to us years ago. We rescued a giant malamute dog that no one wanted. He brought so much joy into our lives the 6 yrs. that we had him. We took him for a exam and they discovered cancer, but it was not operable so we had to have him put down. We still laugh about the fun times we had with that gentle giant!

  31. YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

R E M I S S I O N is such a beautiful word, and I must investigate its origins and play with this word....its suffix "re" seems to suggest a redoing, another CHANCE, to repeat LIFE....and you are so right Kris, I think LOVE emits an energy and gives a will to press on and to make the best out of anything. Cooper looks amazingly well, and animals KNOW just as well as humans, who loves them. Oh this life and its participants, both human and beast are so fortunate to breathe the experience. HAPPY LIFE to you all!!!

  43. I love Cooper! Crying tears of joy now that the treatment is helping him stay as long as possible with your loving family. Oh Kris, I know just what you mean--who rescued who? I feel that way every day about our dear brothers Otis & Milo who we adopted from a wonderful KY dachshund rescue organization when they were almost 10 years old. Each day is a privilege to live with them.

God bless you both and Cooper,

  44. Cherish every hour, each day. Animals are gifts that give us hope, peace, and joy every day they share their lives with us. Wonderful that Cooper has responded so well to the treatments. You were meant to be together. Even though there will be no such help for my little Gracie (congestive heart failure) her medication is giving us more time together. You would hardly know she is sick, she is so full of love and happiness. But I do know the day will come and have already made the dreaded arrangements because I cannot let her suffer. Hold Cooper close as I cling to my little 5 pound bundle of joy, thankful for having her in my life.

  54. This is great news! I'm so happy for you and Cooper. I do also believe that a loved pet has more will to fight. My cat has a eye infection and the vet said that maybe he would loose his eye... But Milo is being very nice and let me put the medication in his eye even if it's obvious it's painful. Love doesn't heal, but it does help a great deal!

  64. Oh Yes Kris, it's all about love here, and a healing is always the beauty of its loving outcome.
This is wonderful news, it was so sad for all of us to wrap our heads around the bleak news of his fight for life, and the new life for ever how long he would be with you. We knew his time with you would be nothing short of total love and devotion to his wellness, and Kris to hear he is in Remission is wonderful, yes God spared a beautiful man pup in your life, and we will all pray his health does not take another turn for the worst.
I can't tell you how exciting it is to hear good news of Coopers health, and how you love him so... I can't imagine he would have lived if he had not been adopted by you and Terry, you are brave soldiers to have taken on this stress and coopers needs, but look at the beautiful rewards.

See you soon when he is enjoying a Giving of Thanks dinner. And all you inspire before ThanksGiving !!

    Xx
